Job Summary
The Activity Assistant will be responsible for assisting the LEC with organizing, implementing, and participating in all recreational activities and programs for all residents. They will help with decorating the facility for all holiday and special occasions, be a happy, motivated, creative, upbeat, and positive individual that wants to add value, fun, and memorable moments to all the residents daily.
Job Requirements
Ability to communicate with residents, families, and staff. Valid driver’s license for resident transportation.

Physical Job Requirements

Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time; bend/stoop; lift/carry/reach over 50 lbs.

Typical Duties

  • Set up, assist with, and/or run activities for residents with a variety or impairments. This may include group and/or 1:1 activities.
  • Assist with planning, setting up, cleaning up and running special events for varying sizes
  • Provide guidance and support to volunteers
  • Track and maintain Activity Department attendance forms
  • Mail monthly newsletters and other event correspondence to family members and volunteers
  • Basic office work such as filing, making copies, hanging posters, etc.
  • Update bulletin board monthly
  • Communicate with staff efficiently
  • Assist with interviewing new residents for life stories
  • Conduct one-on-one activities on Alzheimer’s unit
  • Communication daily with LEC
  • Vary hours depending on needs and activities for residents
  • Keep activity office, storage areas and supplies organized, neat and clean
  • Providing transportation and supervision to residents for outside activities i.e. offsite events and field trips
  • Other duties as assigned by Admin/LEC

General Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the general well being and safety of the residents
  • Treat residents and staff with dignity and respect
  • Participation in all required surveys, licensing requirements, fire drills, etc.
  • Maintenance, upkeep and cleaning of facility
  • Teamwork and participation
  • Communication with Administrator/Home Manager
  • Greeting residents, families, visitors, peers, other agency personnel with respect and friendliness
  • Answering phones: facility name, this is, state your name.
  • Timely notification of absences, illness, etc. and completing appropriate forms
  • Reporting any incidents to the Administrator/Home Manager and documentation on appropriate forms
  • Knowledge of and participation in licensing requirements
  • Continuing education as dictated by job function
  • Complete confidentiality as maintained in regards to resident information
